Atatürk Cultural Centre
AKM's Place in the Life of Arts and Culture in İstanbul
From the day it first opened, Atatürk Cultural Centre has served as a very valuable Art Sanctuary for us, the residents of İstanbul. It had to be repaired when it suffered from a fire and had widely worn off due to overuse. We were waiting for it to be repaired and open as soon as possible. Our wait getting longer and longer, it has been a gratifying and promising news for us to see it reopen with a brand-new face today, though we were sad it was not going to be repaired but demolished and rebuilt. This has been especially encouraging for me as I wrote, in due of time, 6 Grand Operas, 1 Children’s Opera, and 2 Ballets, which have been waiting for years now to be staged. That being so, I unfortunately doubt that I will see my works of art being staged there. I am not sure; perhaps by the time my artworks take their turn, I will have already closed my eyes.
