After its 2020 premiere, İzmir State Opera and Ballet will perform Georges Bizet’s immortal piece Carmen opera as a ballet, composed in two acts with an original choreography for the first time, in the conductorship of Tulio Gagliardo at the Atatürk Cultural Center in the scope of the 2nd Beyoğlu Culture Festival. The work, arranged by Tulio Gagliardo and organized by the director and choreographer Carlos Vilan, blending the elements of flamenco with ballet, will feature Burcu Olguner as Carmen, H. Özide as Don Jose, and Ali E. Topçu as Escamillo.
Carmen is originally a romantic novel by Prosper Mérimée based on his travels in Spain. The work takes place in Seville, where Carmen, a fiery beauty who works in a tobacco factory, develops a complicated love triangle between herself, Don Jose, and Escamillo. The work, composed for opera by Georges Bizet, whose libretto is also based on the novel Carmen, will meet art enthusiasts with its fantastic music and awe-inspiring visuals at the AKM Türk Telekom Opera Hall
