Duration: 124 Minutes
The most anticipated animation film of the year marks the magnificent return of the great master Hayao Miyazaki to cinema after a decade. 'The Child and the Heron,' which was the opening film at the Toronto Film Festival, is set during World War II and follows the story of a young boy named Mahito. After losing his mother, Mahito is forced to move hastily to the countryside with his father. There, he plays near an abandoned tower where he repeatedly encounters a grey heron. Soon, he realizes that nothing is as it seems. This profound fantasy about growing up and mourning includes a stunning visual world, extraordinary colors, and ever-present mysteries, as we expect from Miyazaki. The entire film, completed over seven years, was hand-drawn by a 60-person team.
