With Evin İlyasoğlu and Prof. Ertuğrul Sevsay, “Cemal Reşit Rey The Istanbulıte Composer”
A spectacular celebration on behalf of the 50th year of the Istanbul Music Festival! Atatürk Cultural Center, already a candidate to be cited among the world-renowned concert halls, which has hosted many splendid events since the first years of the festival, will bring Gautier Capuçon, one of the most important cello players of our day in the performance by Presidential Symphony Orchestra to be conducted by Cemi’i Can Deliorman!
San Francisco Cronicle introduces Capuçon as, “[o]ne of those rare artists who, while giving his music a gift of freedom and refinement, gives a sense of dramatic significance to every piece he interprets.” The artist, who perfectly presents the violoncello in his concert performances with an extraordinary delicacy, a constantly renewing courage, and flexible expressions, impresses the audience with this clear intensity in his interpretation. Capuçon, a former guest of the festival, performed with the world's leading conductors and soloists at various festivals such as Enescu, Rostropovich, Prague Spring, and St. Denis, and Evian. He is very active in the field of chamber music. Having toured with Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Lisa Batiashvili at Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Tonhalle Zürich, Philharmonie Berlin, Herkulessaal der Residenz Munich and Philharmonie Paris, names such as Yuja Wang, Nikolai Lugansky, Martha Argerich, Andreas Ottensamer, Daniil, and star artists such as the brothers Trifonov and Labèque can be cited among those who Capuçon has closely collaborated with. Capuçon, the leader of the Classe d' Excellence de Violoncelle at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, as well as the Fondation Gautier Capuçon, which is founded to support young artists, supporting more than 40 thousand children from all over the country to aquaint themselves with classical music, is one of Erato's ( Warner Classics) distinguished artists and has an extensive discography. With his last album, Emotions, released in 2020, which became the number one chart in France, held its place for more than 30 weeks, and this work sold more than fifty thousand copies. In the concert where he will perform the Cello Concerto, one of his famous works, the ensemble under the direction of young and successful conductor Cemi'i Can Deliorman, who was the Music Director of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra (PSO) last season, will perform the performances of Cemal Reşit Rey, a “true Istanbulite composer" whose works we are proud of. He will interpret Cemal Reşit Rey’s Estantaneler, Snapshots, a work which reflects the composer’s deep passion for the city, and also Dvořák's impressive symphony entitled “From the New World”.
In the concert which will unite the musical prowess of Deliorman, who has worked as a guest conductor in international ensembles such as Graz KUG, Sicilian Symphony, Lisbon Music University Orchestras and Almaty Opera, and have been invited to important events including the European Cantat Music Festival, Acco Music Festival, with the power and passion of the PSO. An extremely poetic evening awaits you at the concert, in which the photos of İstanbul will come to life in our eyes...
