Qanun Of The World

Producing his works by getting inspiration from the richness of the diverse countries and cultures where he organises his concerts, Ahmet Baran asks us, by the power vested in him thanks to his qanun, to consider his music, which touches the heart by keeping the word short yet the music emotional, a white, cottony cloud. As the cloud, the interpreter of all feelings that appear foaming up, travels across the world, the virtuoso invites you to a journey that is full of feelings that flow from complex feelings to ultimate order, from darkness to light.

Ahmet Baran was the youngest qanun performer of the Symphony Orchestra when he was 18. His interest in jazz music and improvisation helped him share the stage with globally known artists and actually record with them. He added to qanun performance a new technique that now bears his own name. He performed concerts that introduce Turkish music in 55 statespeople’s honour, which include the Queen of England, the President of Russia, the Pope, and the King of Norway. Culture and Arts Award and The Year’s Artistic Venture can be cited among the prizes he received, and he ranked first in several international competitions. He received two legions of honour, one from the Queen of Denmark Margrethe II and the other, from the President of Kazakstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Ahmet Baran continues to develop common projects with globally known artists with his band “Kanun Namına Project” (meaning “in the name of the law” and playing with the Turkish words for “qanun” and “law,” both spelled “kanun”). In these performances, he conveys the East’s dynamic and cosmopolitan spirit with special talents and visual shows. In addition to İyilik Akademisi, which he himself established, he organises mastership programmes in world’s distinguished academic institutions and shares his knowledge and experiences with hundreds of qanun students living in diverse countries.
