A Special Symphonic Evening at Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM)
On April 1, the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) will host a distinguished symphonic concert bringing together leading figures of Azerbaijani and Turkish musical culture in a unique international programme. At the heart of the evening is Symphonic Gravures by Eldar Mansurov, one of Azerbaijan’s most prominent contemporary composers. Conceived as a cycle of musical “engravings,” Symphonic Gravures is inspired by visual imagery, historical memory, and philosophical reflection. Through refined musical language and a rich emotional palette, Mansurov creates a vivid symphonic narrative in which Eastern musical roots merge organically with modern expression.First unveiled in Baku, Symphonic Gravures began its artistic journey there, later resonating with audiences in Budapest and Rome, and now finds its way to Istanbul – a new meeting point in its evolving international voyage. The concert will be conducted by Fuad Ibrahimov, an internationally acclaimed maestro known for his clarity of interpretation, emotional depth, and commanding presence on the podium. He currently serves as General Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra and collaborates regularly with leading orchestras across Europe. The evening features the celebrated dramatic tenor Yusif Eyvazov, whose powerful, Italianate voice and commanding stage presence have earned him international acclaim on the world’s foremost opera stages. His participation brings operatic grandeur and vocal intensity to this symphonic programme.A special highlight of the concert is the appearance of Levent Yüksel, one of Turkey’s most beloved and influential singers and musicians. Renowned for his distinctive voice and timeless repertoire, Levent Yüksel adds a unique contemporary dimension to the evening, creating a meaningful dialogue between symphonic tradition and modern vocal expression. The concert will be performed by the İstanbul State Opera and Ballet Orchestra, with soprano Hale Soner appearing as guest soloist. This special evening at AKM promises Istanbul audiences a rare musical experience – uniting symphonic depth, iconic voices, and a vibrant cultural dialogue between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
