Opening: 11:00 Closing: 19:00
The exhibition is closed for visits on Mondays.
The art of Inscribed Akkâse Ebrû is performed by applying the inscription templet on a pale-coloured pre-marbled ebrû, after which the templet is removed during the second marbling. The Inscribed Akkâse Ebrû is realized thanks to the joint application of the arts of Ebrû (Marbling), hüsn-i hat (Calligraphy) and katı' (Cut and Apply) in one framework. It is a practice specific to Turkish Ebrû, in which both the Ebrû and the calligraphy can be enjoyed in one picture.
In the history of Ebrû, these types of Inscribed Akkâse Ebrû works were first practised by the Hezârfen (polymath) Necmeddin Okyay. In time, its technique has been perfected.
The exhibition, therefore, is named "In Gratitude to Hezârfen Necmeddin Okyay", thanks to his service in promoting and developing Turkish calligraphy and art of Ebrû. In the exhibition, the works of Necmeddin Okyay are predominantly displayed; however, the works of many renowned calligraphy artists who are no longer with us, whose works have become anonymized, having received much admiration, will also be present for display.
