The “bride,” who is only a little girl that has just reached puberty, is given away in marriage to a “groom” who just returned to his village after doing long years in prison and is more than 50 years older than the girl. She is frightened at first and starts crying. She even tries to resist. Unaware of what is going to happen to her, she just acts according to the things she hears from here and there. Sitting with all her dread in the bridal room, she will just face the bitter reality as the man, who is old enough to be her grandfather, starts to walk toward her. Lal Gece, the last movie of the director and scenarist Reis Çelik, who started his cinema career with documentaries and whose first feature-length fictional movie was “Işıklar Sönmesin,” is based upon a real story and adapts the social reality of child brides into a movie. The social and realist perspective Çelik always preserves in his movies is presented one more time to the spectators through this movie. The starring roles of the movie are shared by İlyas Salman and Dilan Aksüt.
