İstanbul State Opera and Ballet is on stage with the Musical “The man from La Mancha”…
The musical, which is composed by Mitch Leigh, drafted by Dale Wasserman and Joe Darion, and translated by Güngör Dilmen, will be directed by Murat Göksu.
The work, which held its World premiere in 1965 in Connecticut, and made its Broadway premiere in the same year, tells a story from the end of the 16th century. Miguel de Cervantes, a tax collector, soldier, and writer, and his assistant Sancho get incarcerated by the Inquisition on the ground that they have recalcitrated against the authority of a monastery. The convicts in the prison seize all belongings of Cervantes. However, he ultimately succeeds in persuading them for the return of the manuscripts; and by revivifying the story of Don Quixote of La Mancha he delivers a dramatic plea. Here begins the touching and passionate story of Don Quixote, an honorable chevalier who lives in his own raving world refusing to believe the end of the era for chivalry.
