About Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso, the artist who transformed the art world, arrived in Paris in the early 1900s. He began his career by selling his first works to nuns and quickly gained recognition at the Bateau-Lavoir workshop in Montmartre. He met art dealers such as Berthe Weill and Ambroise Vollard and made friends with a variety of artists while there. Picasso, who was passionate about his art, lived a bohemian lifestyle. The loves he had during this time, particularly his relationship with Fernande Olivier, were reflected in his work.
Meeting Derain and Braque in 1907 elevated his art to new heights. During this time, in his works, figures such as old beggars and sick children were replaced by Harlequin characters and pink-era young girls. Picasso produced significant Cubist works during his relationship with Eva Gouel. However, following Eva's death, he noticed a significant shift in his art.
In later years, his relationships with Marie-Thérèse Walter, Dora Maar, and many other women had a significant impact on both his personal and artistic lives. During this time, art evolved, displaying various styles and techniques. During World War II, Picasso remained in Paris and continued to produce art in the postwar period.
He married Jacqueline Roque and dedicated his final years to his art. Picasso, who died in 1973, left a lasting impression on the history of art.
About the Pablo Picasso Exhibition
The exhibition features 170 original Pablo Picasso engravings, drawings, posters, lithographs, and photographs, all of which have been approved by his heirs.
Pablo Picasso's artistic career began at a young age when he sold his first significant works to nuns. In 1900, he moved to Paris and began working at the Bateau-Lavoir workshop in Montmartre, where he met notable artists and dealers. During this time, he met Fernande Olivier and developed a relationship with her, which is reflected in his work. Picasso's life was defined by passionate relationships with a variety of women. One of these relationships was with Eva Gouel, and this was a pivotal period in his artistic development, reflecting Cubist influences.
Later, his relationships with Marie-Thérèse Walter and Dora Maar had a significant impact on both his artistic and personal life. Throughout his life, Picasso constantly reshaped his art and was a pioneer in a number of art movements. Picasso preferred to stay in Paris during World War II, where he created important works such as Guernica.
In his later years, his relationship with Françoise Gilot and the children born from it marked a turning point in the artist's personal and artistic life. Picasso continued his intense work in his workshop near the Seine River while also joining the French Communist Party around the same time. He spent his final years with Jacqueline Roque before passing away in 1973. Following his death, his family engaged in long legal battles over inheritance.
This exhibition not only highlights Picasso's artistic life and the influence of his personal relationships on his work, but it also comprehensively depicts his artistic evolution.
