Devrim Erbil was born in Uşak in 1937.
In 1955, he enrolled at the İstanbul State Fine Arts Academy. He was one of the students of Halil Dikmen at the Gallery and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu at the atelier.
In 1959, he founded the group Soyutçu 7 (7 Abstractionists).
He graduated from the İstanbul State Fine Arts Academy (ISFAA), department of High Arts. In 1962, he became an assistant at the Academy. He worked at the workshops of Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Cemal Tollu, and Cevat Dereli.
In 1963, he found the Mavi Grup (Blue Group) with Tülay Tura, Altan Gürman, Adnan Çoker, and Sarkis.
In 1965, after being granted the art scholarship offered by the Spanish Government, he began his professional research and investigations in Madrid and Barcelona, which he continued in Paris and London.
In 1969, he served as the Chairman of the Modern Painters Association of Turkey. In 1970, he received his associate professorship from the İSFAA. In 1975, he worked as the Chairman of the Visual Artists Association.
In 1979, he was assigned to the Directorate of İstanbul Paintings and Sculptures Museum, serving there for three and a half years. In 1981, he became a full professor at İSFAA. In 1985, 1990, and 1988, he consecutively served at the: Mimar Sinan University, Chairmanship of Fine Arts Faculty Department of Painting; Yıldız University Chairmanship of Fine Arts Department; Mimar Sinan University Fine Arts as the Vice Dean.
In 1991, he was honoured with the title of State Artist.
Devrim Erbil held many group exhibitions abroad. He served as the commissariat of many exhibitions promoting Turkish Arts. He held many conferences in Alexandria, Belgrade, Sofia, and Kuwait and published many works on Arts.
Many of the works of the artist are at the İstanbul-Ankara-İzmir Painting and Sculpture Museums, Bucharest Modern Arts Museum, Collection of Banja Abby Grey Foundation of Luka Umnetnicka Galerija, Ankara National Library Collection, and many domestic and abroad official and private collections.
