Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Abduction from the Seraglio" opera, to be staged by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet, is going to come to the stage with a different understanding of direction, remaining faithful to its classical form.
In the piece, staged by the director Caner Akın, references are also made to the epidemic that has left its mark on the world's news in the recent years. The work also deals with the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic. As another proof of the saying, "History repeats itself"; as in the Spanish Flu, as in the pandemic, social distance, hygiene and masks were of great importance. While these details are worked through in the work; it is also emphasized that Turks, one of the most important elements of the classical subject, attach importance to mercy instead of holding grudges.
In the representation, the portrayals are as follows; Ufuk Toker "Belmonte", Umut Tingür "Osmin", Ceren Aydın "Konstanze", Işılay Meriç Karataş "Blondchen", Serkan Bodur "Pedrillo", Caner Akın "Selim Pasha", and Alp Sandıkçı "Child".
Conductor Zdravko Lazarov conducts the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Orchestra. The choreography of the piece is developed by the famous ballet dancer Tan Sağtürk. The scene and costume design are by Olcay Engin Kaymaz, and the lighting design is by Taner Aydın. The Choirmaster of the piece is Volkan Akkoç.
