Tan Sağtürk Young Ballet Company
A new production from Türkiye.
This young and dynamic company, composed of classical ballet and hip hop dancers, brings Swan Lake to the stage under the title SWANS, offering a bold new perspective, produced by Duende Global.
Blending dance, music, and technology, this special production presents a young, powerful, and contemporary stage language that moves beyond classical conventions.
About the Work – “Swans”
Staged by the Tan Sağtürk Young Ballet Company and produced by Duende Global, “Swans” is a compelling stage experience composed of two acts and approximately 75 minutes in duration, bringing together modern and neo-classical ballet approaches.
While Tchaikovsky’s timeless music is reimagined in line with contemporary aesthetics, the work offers audiences a performance that feels both familiar and full of surprises. The hip hop dancers accompanying the Young Ballet Company add a distinct rhythm, energy, and physical power to the structure.
In this interpretation of the work, Rothbart and his companions are presented not merely as individual characters, but as the embodied form of dark forces, brought to life on stage through a collective and powerful movement language. The role of Rothbart is performed by a young European Hip Hop Champion. The classic conflict between good and evil is made visible through intense group scenes and physical theatricality, while the contrast between the white and black swans transforms into a striking visual composition on stage.
One of the most distinctive innovations of the work is the reinterpretation of classical ballet through its fusion with contemporary dance. This approach offers the audience an unexpected, dynamic, and engaging stage experience.
Remaining essentially faithful to the original Swan Lake narrative, “Swans” presents a hopeful finale in which love and goodness triumph over darkness. The work brings together its roots with contemporary aesthetics, youthful energy, and a multi-layered stage language.
