After the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye on October 29, 1923, its first international treaty, the "Treaty of Friendship" (Muhadenet Muahedenamesi), was signed with Hungary on December 18, 1923. The year 2024, marking the centennial of the signing of the Hungarian-Turkish Friendship Treaty, was decided to be celebrated as the "Hungarian-Turkish Culture Year" to foster a deeper and mutual understanding of the cultures of the two countries. This exhibition, prepared within the framework of the centennial, undertakes to showcase portraits of Hungarians who contributed to the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the reform processes of the young Republic of Türkiye, playing a significant role in the country's modernization and construction. Thus, the exhibition sheds light on some aspects of Turkish-Hungarian relations and the history of knowledge transfer from the mid-19th century. We hope that these stories will serve as an inspiration and example for future generations. The exhibition is realized through the collaboration of the Liszt Institute Hungarian Cultural Center and the Hungarian National Museum, as part of the Hungarian-Turkish Culture Year.
