15nd International İstanbul Opera and Ballet Festival
2 Acts./ 120 Minutes
In a small Greek town, an American named John arrives. Captivated by the local traditions he wants to be part of, he falls in love with Marina, a beautiful widow, who reciprocates his feelings. Moreover, Marina has also disregarded the love of the village's handsome young man. The villagers oppose her love for a foreigner. However, John and Marina are protected by Zorba, John's friend. Thanks to Zorba, a strong and independent man with no family, the couple has the chance to experience their love... The villagers strive to preserve their unity and traditions. Zorba manages to save poor John from the villagers, while his lover Marina becomes a victim of the vengeful crowd. Disheartened by life, Zorba finds solace in dancing the sirtaki, and John and the others join him in this dance. Everyone seeks consolation, forgiveness, and the strength to endure for a new life.
